Jamaican elections set for end of year, Dec 29

Andrew Holness

Portia Simpson-Miller

Unlike the opposition leader, Portia Simpson-Miller, who waited for quite some time to call the general elections in Jamaica only to lose to Bruce Golding, recently-elected Prime Minister & leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Andrew Holness, has called for general elections on December 29, 2011, only 2 months after being officially sworn into office.

Though fairly popular, Holness will have a tough time against the opposition and leader of the People’s National Party (PNP), Simpson-Miller.  While most experts believe the decision to call a quick election will ensure his victory, others are predicting that the 39-year old Holness, Jamaica’s youngest Prime Minister ever, will lose and become the PM to serve the shortest term ever in Jamaican history.

Only time will tell.  On behalf of Yowlink, we only wish for a civil elections, with no major incident.  Jamaica has had enough negative press internationally to deal with any negativity during and after these elections.   Jamaica… Jamaica…  Jamaica land we love.
