Schaefer makes controversial comments after Reggae Boyz loss to South Korea

Shortly after a humbling 0-3 loss in yesterday’s friendly to South Korea, Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz coach Winfried Schaefer, currently fighting a 2-game suspension, said he didn’t expect the team he went with to beat the South Koreans. That statement, along with the Boyz’ play, drew ire from Captain Horace Burrell.

The Boyz have not played well since the first half of the Gold Cup finals vs Mexico, four (4) games ago. Since then they look like a team searching for an identity. I know that a few impact players from the Gold Cup squad have not played, but something is wrong. With next round World Cup qualification, the group stage, coming up against tough teams, now is not the time to be slacking. The Boyz play Panama, a team that has fared well against them historically, at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, on November 13, 2015.

Let’s hope that this is a wake-up call to Captain Burrell, Coach Schaefer, and all of the Reggae Boyz.
