West Indies Under 19 Men celebrate their Maiden ODI title

West Indies wins Cricket Under 19 World Cup

West Indies Under-19 Men win World Cup – from ESPN Cricinfo
Beating the odds in Bangladesh, the West Indies Under-19 team won the Under 19 World Cup, their first, beating the Indian Under-19 team by 5 wickets with 3 balls to bowl. The West Indian Under 19 team had beaten Pakistan and Bangladesh in the quarters and semis respectively to get to the finals.

This was a nice bright spot for West Indian cricket which has seen the men’s senior teams falter, feud, falter, feud, falter… We hope this triggers something good for West Indies senior team which will be in the World T-20 soon. The T-20 International is clearly their favorite format of the game (over Tests and ODIs), particularly because it’s one of the most lucrative. They’ve also been most successful in the T20I format.

Congratulations to the young West Indians. We can only hope that, 2-5 years from now, at least half these youngsters can make it into the senior squad and make a difference.
