Former Cuban President, Fidel Castro, has died.

After overthrowing then Cuban president, Fulgencio Batista, Castro governed Cuba as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976. Then he was President from 1976 to 2008, when he handed over the reigns to his brother, current President, Raul Castro. Politically, Castro was a Marxist–Leninist and Cuban nationalist and a long-time enemy of United States who was friendly with Russia.

Many within Cuba and around the Caribbean mourn, even as many in South Florida rejoice.

Castro was 90 years old and will be cremated today.

How do you feel about Castro and his legacy? Talk to me nuh.

I man first. To the people, mostly wealthy, whose land he stole or whose relatives he killed because they opposed him, they will celebrate. For others who saw him as a revolutionary, they will feel sadness. I can tell you that most Caribbean people I man talk to over di years nuh have issues with Fidel Castro. No politician, revolutionary or not, is perfect. Castro definitely had many many flaws, did many many bad, but did many many good.

Thanks for comments @tnoon. I see your point that he was and all politicians did bad and good. I suspect you understand both sides. I do agree that most peoples of non-Cuban or non-American descent that I run into have reported that the government of their country of origin have been friendly towards Castro’s Cuba and vice-versa. I suppose nothing more needs to be said.
