Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz tie #5 France in Women’s World Cup Group F match

The Reggae Girlz of Jamaica (JAM) shocked the world by playing to a 0-0 tie with powerhouse and number 5 France (5) in their first Group F encounter.

It was a bitter-sweet win, however, as Khadija “Bunny” Shaw was ejected early into the extra time of the 2nd half after picking up her 2nd yellow card of the game and will have to miss the Panama game.

Next up is Panama (PAN) who Jamaica beat in penalty kicks to make the 2019 World Cup so, no doubt, revenge will be on the Panamanians’ minds.

After that, it sets up a final group match against the mighty Brazil (BRA) and their ageless Marta who is in her 6th (likely final) World Cup. Brazil is the #9th ranked team in the World. Group F is the so-called “group of death” after all.

This is the second time the Girlz’ have qualified for the prestigious Women’s World Cup after qualifying in 2019 for the first time, against all odds and with very little support from the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and businesses around Jamaica. In 2019, they they lost all 3 games, scoring 1 goal, so this first ever World Cup point, coming against a powerhouse like France, is SWEET!
